The local football federation FUFA has approved The Saints FC’s request to change the club name to UPDF FC.
This follows a request from the club in line to consolidate their original agenda on which the club was formed in the first days.
“Following your club’s official request and related letters on the matter submitted seeking to change the current club name “The Saints FC” to UPDF FC. The 14th FUFA Executive Committee meeting after verification of grounds for the request and related regulations, has granted your club permission to change the name to “UPDF FC””, Said the FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson the matter.
It should be remembered that the now Saints FC incorporated the recently dissolved Simba FC that was relegated from the top league and decided to take on the new name of the Saints since they could not be allowed to change the name by then.
Simba FC was formed on the Uganda army basis long in 1968 and that’s why the new name will be vital to bring back the glory of its days.
Their home ground is at Bombo army barracks and still maintains their seat in the AZAM Uganda Premier league season 2017/2018 after finishing 12th in the league standings with 33 points from 30 matches on 8 wins, 9-draws and 13 lost.
